Srinagar, Feb 2: After witnessing intermittent rain and snow during the last about four days, people on Friday enjoyed summer-like weather due to sunshine though the night temperature dipped and settled below freezing point at majority of the places in Kashmir valley.
The border town of Kargil was the coldest place in the region at minus 13 degree, followed by neighbouring town of Leh, where mercury dipped and settled at minus 11.5 degree.
A Met department said that the weather will remain dry during the next 48 hours, which could result in further dip in the night temperature.
The night temperature at Kargil dipped about 10 degree from Thursday and settled at minus 13 degree. Leh also witnessed a dip of about 3 degree from Thursday in the night temperature, which settled at minus 11.5 degree.
After witnessing a dip of about a degree in the night temperature, people woke up to a chilly Friday morning. However as the day progressed, sun came out resulting in major improvement in the weather. Against 1.7 degree recorded on Thursday, the night temperature at Srinagar was 0.7 degree, which is still a degree above normal. Meanwhile, the day temperature recorded on Friday was 5 degree above normal.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, also witnessed a dip in the night temperature though it settled over a degree above normal. Against minus 5 degree recorded on Thursday, the night temperature at the ski resort was minus 6 degree.
The night temperature at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, dipped and settled at minus 4 degree, against minus 0.6 degree recorded on Thursday. The night temperature at Pahalgam was 2 degree above normal.
