The party which shared power for 12 years in Jammu and Kashmir is on crossroads. At present the party leaders are fighting among themselves to establish their writ and the race for who would be next JKPCC chief has brought the party leaders at loggerheads.
Leaders from Jammu region are blaming the leaders from Kashmir region of ruining the party.
There are speculations that Jammu based leaders are demanding that party should nominate someone from Jammu as the party chief rather than having somebody from Kashmir. The Jammu based Congress leaders are of the opinion that people of Jammu have always supported Congress and the present anti-incumbency wave could help them in giving a tough fight to BJP in the region.
A few Jammu based leaders recently accused the JKPCC president of giving mandate to those candidates who are financially sound and ignoring the ground workers. They have already expressed their dismay over the Congress high command mulling to appoint Tariq Hameed Kara as the new JKPCC chief.
Since the day BJP has made inroads in Jammu and has dislodged Congress there the Congress party which ruled J&K for 12-years has almost lost its address in Jammu. All its stalwarts lost parliamentary and assembly polls in 2014.
Jammu based Congress leaders are up in arms against their top leaders for what they call their Kashmir centric approach and for ignoring the aspirations of Jammu region.
If Congress high command doesn’t intervene it could find JK Congress struggling for survival. There is every possibility about party getting split and fighting each other in Jammu and Kashmir regions. The new Congress Chief has got an uphill task at his hands as far as J&K is concerned.
