People block road in Budgam to protest alleged police high-handedness

Srinagar, Dec 25: Scores of people of Budgam district Monday blocked the Poshker-Magam road at Sharan against the alleged police “high-handedness.”
Report said that the traffic on the road came to a standstill for nearly two hours which results in inconvenience to the commuters.
Locals said a group of policemen allegedly asked a local Sumo driver of the area last evening to drop them at police station Khag without asking for the fare. They said after the sumo driver dropped them at the police station, Sumo driver was asked to keep the vehicle at police station till he shows necessary documents.
“It is high handedness of police. If they wanted to check the documents, they should have checked the same on road and before asking him to drop them at Khag. What did it mean to take the vehicle for one purpose and seize it without any reason? The villagers asked.
However, Station House Officer (SHO) Police station Khag Mohammad Aslam denied the allegations levelled by the villagers and said that the vehicle was seized during checking on the road.
“We asked him (sumo driver) to show the documents but he left the sumo there,” Aslam asked. However reports said that the vehicle was later released by police. (PTK)
