Chill continues in Kashmir, night temp improves in Ladakh

 

Srinagar, Dec 24: Chilly weather conditions continued as night temperature remained several degrees below normal while maximum temperature witnessed further dip due to overcast conditions in Kashmir valley.
However, Ladakh region witnessed major improvement in the night temperature due to overcast conditions.
A Met department spokesperson said that weather will be mainly dry during the next 24 hours in the state, which would result in further dip in the minimum and maximum temperature.
Even though there was an improvement of 7 degree from Saturday in Leh, it was the coldest place in the region at minus 6.1 degree followed by world famous ski resort of Gulmarg at minus 5.6 degree.
The border town of Kargil also witnessed an improvement of 12 degree. Against minus 15.2 degree recorded on Saturday, the night temperature at Kargil was minus 3.6 degree.
He said light snow would occur during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 2 degree and minus 10 degree, respectively.
The night temperature at Gulmarg, where ski slopes are under several feet of snow, improved and settled at minus 5.6 degree, against minus 7 degree recorded on Saturday. The temperature at the ski resort was still below normal.
People woke up to a chilly and cloudy Sunday morning, resulting in further dip in the day temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar. Against minus 2.1 degree recorded on Saturday, the night temperature at Srinagar was minus 2 degree, which is normal. The maximum temperature in Srinagar on Saturday was a degree below normal.
He said skies will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 11 degree and minus 3 degree, respectively.
The mercury at Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, improved about 2 degree from Saturday and settled at minus 4 degree, which is normal. However, the day chill intensified due to overcast conditions.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag dipped and settled at minus 2.2 degree, minus 2.5 degree and minus 1.8 degree, respectively.
