Normal life remains crippled in parts of Shopian

Srinagar, Dec 22: Normal life remained crippled for the fourth successive day on Friday in parts of south Kashmir district of Shopian, where a woman was killed in clashes with security forces, triggered after two militants were gunned down during an encounter.
Even though there was no strike call given by any organization, shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the road at Batmuran and adjoining area in Shopian.
A 24-year-old woman was killed while about a dozen other civilians were injured when security forces allegedly opened fire and pellets and burst teargas shells to disperse protestors at Batmuran on Tuesday. However, police said the woman was killed in cross-fire during the encounter between the militants and security forces near the encounter site.
The demonstrations were triggered after two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces early this week. Two jawans were also injured in the encounter.
However, reports of normalcy were coming from other parts of Shopian and other north and south Kashmir districts.
