Srinagar, Dec 17: One more youth has shunned the path of violence and returned to join the mainstream in the Kashmir valley, police said.
However, police appealed to media not to disclose the name and other details of the youth who returned to home.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter police said “In our efforts to get misguided youth to mainstream 01 more youth who had recently joined, shuns path of violence & returns home. Identity of individual stands protected. Media is requested not to publish any particulars for his protection”
Shunning the path of militancy and joining mainstream started after footballer-turned militant Majid Khan returned home following appeals by his parents, relatives, friends and others through social media. About half a dozen youths, who had picked up the gun, have so far returned to mainstream in the valley. About three others were arrested alive during encounters in the valley by the security forces.
Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has directed security forces to allow surrender of local militants even during encounters. Senior police officers had also organized a number of meetings with the relatives of local militants to persuade them to return homes.
The senior police officers have already announced that no cases will be registered against the youths who will shun the path of militancy and join mainstream.
