Srinagar, Dec 17: National Conference on Sunday expressed grief and shock over the killing of Asif Iqbal, a young taxi driver in an incident of firing in Kupwara. Strongly condemning the incident, National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah termed the killing of Asif Iqbal of Kupwara as a tragic and inconsolable loss and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Demanding that the FIR registered by J&K Police about this tragic incident should be taken to its logical conclusion in a time-bound and transparent manner, the NC Working President said an un-investigated claim of a young life lost in ‘cross-firing’ shouldn’t be used to brush the incident under the carpet.
National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Party Vice President Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, NC District President Kupwara Qaiser Jamsheed Lone and Former Minister Mir Saifullah have also expressed grief and shock over the tragic loss of life and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee(JKPCC) expressed deep sorrow over the killing of a Sumo Driver Asif Iqbal Bhat who lost his life due to firing during an ambush laid by the Army at Thandipora Village and described the incident as very unfortunate and shocking.
In a statement, the Congress Spokesperson while condemning the killing of Sumo Driver expressed deep sorrow and grief over this unfortunate incident of killing of innocent person, who lost his life due to the firing by Army.
He said Security Forces must ensure safety of innocent people while dealing with militant related activities, as that the killing of innocent people would deteriorate the situation in valley. He emphasized that the incident of killing must be investigated thereby ensuring justice to the victim.
The Spokesperson urged upon the Govt to provide full compensation to bereaved family, besides ensuring that no innocent people is killed during anti militant operations by Security Forces, he added.
