Centre extending the deadline to link Aadhaar with bank accounts and other services has come as respite for many people especially for the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
Many people in Kashmir are yet to get their Aadhar cards due to one or other reason. People living in far-flung and bordering areas are still without Aadhar cards and they are demanding that government should set up more centers in their areas as they have to wait in long queues to get themselves enrolled for Aadhaar cards.
Despite Supreme Court not making Aadhaar cards mandatory these cards have become a lifeline for the people and the process to issue these cards needs to be expedited so that the people who have been leftover get it without any further delay.

The outside agencies which were assigned this job have almost winded up their operations in the state and people who are without Aadhaar cards are struggling to locate the centers.

The government needs to fix designated spots for issuing Aadhaar cards so that people don’t have to run from one place to another to get themselves enrolled. Another problem which people are facing with Aadhaar cards is that their particulars have not been mentioned correctly. These mistakes have to be rectified as Aadhaar besides becoming the identity proof has become the proof of one’s existence in India.

The J&K is the only state which is lagging behind as far as Aadhaar enrolment is concerned. It’s high time that people of the state get this vital document without any delay. Supreme Court’s intervention has turned Aaadhar into one of the identity proofs for the time being but the fact is that Aaadhar is an important document.
