Night temp improves in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 29: Night temperature witnessed major improvement as mercury surged and settled above normal due to overcast conditions in Kashmir valley, where rain and snow could occur at isolated places during the next 24 hours.
A Met department spokesperson said that light rain or snow could occur at isolated place during the next 24 hours in the state.
Even though there was an improvement of over 2 degree in the night temperature since yesterday at Kargil, it was till the coldest place in the region at minus 4 degree. The mercury at Leh surged and settled at 3.7 degree, against minus 7.3 degree recorded yesterday.
He said skies will be partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be 6 degree and minus 7 degree, respectively.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, also witnessed a marginal improvement in the night temperature. Against minus 3.4 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Gulmarg, which is still waiting for season’s first heavy snowfall, was minus 3 degree.
The mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam , about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, witnessed considerable improvement after it surged and settled at 1.2 degree, against minus 3.9 degree recorded yesterday. The night temperature at Pahalgam was over 3 degree above normal.
After witnessing an improvement of over 3 degree in the night temperature, people woke up a sunny morning though the chill continued due to ice cold winds. Against minus 1.9 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Srinagar was 1.3 degree, which is over a degree above normal.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kukarnag improved and settled at minus 0.6 degree, 0.7 degree and 1.4 degree, respectively.
