Gunfight rages in Hajin, 5 militants, Garud commando killed, soldier injured
Srinagar: Five militants and a Garud commando of Indian Air Force were killed, while an army soldier sustained injuries in an ongoing gunfight at Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, officials said on Saturday.
Army’s Srinagar based spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that five militants and an IAF commando were killed in the ongoing gunfight. “A soldier of 13 RR was wounded in the gunfight,” he said.
An official said a joint party of Army’s 13 RR, Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police and personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon-and-search-operation after “specific inputs” about presence of militants in Chandergair area.
“”As the cordon was being laid the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. Exchange of fire is going on,” the official added.
