Wakf Board fails to safeguard Muslim shrines: Hakeem Yaseen

Srinagar, Nov 16: Expressing grief and shock over the fire incident at Khanqah-e-Maula shrine in which the spire of revered shrine was completely gutted, Chairman People’s Democratic Front and legislator from Khansahib constituency, Hakeem Yaseen Thursday castigated Muslim Wakf Board (MWB) for its utter failure to ensure safety of various Muslim shrines and properties in the Valley.
He said the fresh fire incident at Khankah-e- Maula has shattered the faith and confidence of people in MWB.
In a statement, Hakeem Yaseen said that the unfortunate fire incident at historic Khanqah-Moula has once again proved inefficiency of the Muslim Wakf Board to fulfill its primary tasks and it has not learnt any lesson after the tragic blaze of Dastageer Saheb shrine in 2012.
Hakeem while lambasting the MWB for its callousness to safeguard Muslim shrines, said that the Board has virtually become a money minting machine for paying salaries to the kith and kin of influential people engaged by it. While demanding early repairs of the damaged spire of revered Khankah-e-Maula in accordance to its heritage designing and Islamic architecture, Hakeem Yaseen demanded to put in place adequate security measures at each Muslim shrine and mosque in the state.
He has also called for a safety audit of all the shrines and mosques in the state to check any mishap in future. He said that if the Board fails to come up to the urges and expectations of the people, the people would be forced to come on roads. (CNS)
