Save medicos first

Reports about doctors and paramedics deployed at hospitals testing positive for Swine flu have created ripples in Kashmir. The common man is of the opinion if doctors are not safe then one can imagine the plight of the people.
It’s really unfortunate that authorities have not given Flu shots to the medicos. This has put their lives at stake as they are at highest risk to acquire H1N1 infection. Unvaccinated healthcare workers are vulnerable to infections. If they are not provided with the protective cover how would they be able to handle the patients? The government cannot sleep over the issue, It needs to wake up and act. People at the helm should realize that Swine Flu is a reality and it has to be acknowledged. Authorities need to wake up before any fatality takes place.
President of Doctors Association of Kashmir Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, who is also a Flu expert, had long back warned that Swine Flu virus can wreck havoc in Kashmir. He had even demanded that medicos should be vaccinated. It seems that his warning was not paid any heed to. Everyone knows that patients having Swine Flu are admitted at SKIMS so the people working there are at the highest risk of getting infected. It’s the duty of the SKIMS administration to ensure that doctors and other staff members are protected and their lives are saved.
In addition to vaccination, doctors and paramedics working in the high risk areas like Intensive Care Units should be provided N95 masks and protective gears also. The health minister Bali Baghat should intervene to save the precious lives of the medicos.
