A former Brazil international believes Neymar is the best player in the world today, and also insisted Lionel Messi is an “alien” and failed to mention Cristiano Ronaldo.
Goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who has represented the Selecao at three World Cups, was full of praise for his former national teammate Neymar recently.
The former Inter Milan and Queens Park Rangers shot-stopper, who now plies his trade for Benfica, put Neymar ahead of Ronaldo and all other “human” players, but insisted Messi is not from this planet.
“For me, Neymar is the best player in the world today,” Cesar told ESPN.
“(Lionel) Messi? I said the world; Messi is from another planet!
“But I think this is Neymar’s moment now. The whole world is following him and seeing how he does, even people who don’t follow football are interested in Neymar.”
Cesar, who won the Champions League and five Serie A titles with Inter, was also asked who he thought the current best in his position is, and named four of his rivals.
“There are so many that I don’t like to pick them out because I know I will miss some very good goalkeepers out,” he explained.
“I like Jan Oblak at Atletico Madrid; he’s been excellent working with a team which does not concede many goals.
“Ederson is formidable. And I have to mention (Gianluigi) Buffon, who is still playing at the highest level at his age, playing in two Champions League finals in three seasons. He’s older than me!
“And finally I must mention Manuel Neuer, another one of the best who takes my attention.”
