Centre committed for overall development of J&K: Sitharaman

Srinagar: Asserting that the centre is committed for overall development of Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the people of the valley need to understand that they can’t live in isolation.
Sitharaman, who was on her second visit to the valley after taking over the portfolio of Defence, was here to attend the meeting of Executive Council of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in world famous health resort of Pahalgam.
“The centre is committed for overall development of the state and various steps have been taken in this direction, including several central sponsored schemes,” told reporters here on Sunday.
Sitharaman further said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has also taken swell of measures to develop the state.
However, she said that the people of the valley need to understand that they can’t live in isolation. “People should understand that they need to live together with everyone to flourish and grow,” she added.
The Defence Minister was in the valley for two days September 29 on her maiden tour during which she visited forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) and also reviewed the security situation at the border and hinterland in Kashmir.
“It was a pleasure to host @nsitharaman for the General Body Meeting of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports in Pahalgam today,” Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
